Hello All.
The crash occurred a couple of days ago, the aircraft is,
G-GBXS, Mono, 914, crashed killing two on board about 300 to 500 m short of runway.
Built in 1998. look like an Ex Europa Demonstrator, see photo in G info.
It is really sad, the brother was watching the plane when it crashed.
From the photo, my guess only, it looks like a stall or spin impacted ,
or Structural failure as the plane looks like it hit the ground hard and flat.
We will have to wait for the inspection to get the answer.
Anyway it is tragic misfortune for the family.
Regards.
Alan

No idea whether it could be a factor, but I notice on G-INFO that there was a very recent Permit-to-Fly valid to 14 August 2014. Appears to have been owned by a Group at a microlight site.

I would go for stall or spin, but I understand he was a pilot with a reasonable amount of hours on type, and they always go for pilot error, so its only guess work from me, and structural failure meaning loss of control through some component failing, not the wings breaking off or tail plane.
I hope the investigators find the right cause of this crash,
Alan

First, we are a Europa family. so my heart and thoughts go out to the family. I'm sure most of us who bought Europa's in the early 2000 have flown this aircraft. lets wait and see what conclusion the AAIB come too. and prey for the family.

Hi Philip.
Yes I noticed that also, but hopefully we will know in time.
As far as I know the weather was good, that gets most of us.

Just had a look at one of the BBC reports on the accident.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-23816203
The crash occurred in the field adjacent to the airstrip. From the footage
looks as though the aircraft was travelling towards the strip suggesting
they were about to land.
The wreckage shows the aircraft essentially upright when it impacted and the
wings are still attached to the cockpit module. One shot shows the gearbox
with a complete undamaged propeller blade though this appears to have
sheared from the crankcase housing. I'm not familiar with aircraft crashes
but would have expected the prop to have been turning on impact (but maybe
was stopped - either before or on impact).
Pure guess but I wonder if the engine stopped on finals and then an extended
glide was attempted - leading to a stall.
Hopefully the AIB will put our minds at rest soon although they have told
the BBC that it could take six months.
Structural/ component failure seems unlikely though if it was we may hear
pretty soon (from the LAA). Many of us will recall the aftermath of William
Mills tragic accident.

Hi Carl.
Thanks for the video I had not seen it before.
All you comment seem pretty reasonable to me, well done.
Hope we get the answer quickly and no major mod required.
