Hi, Im new to the Pulsar, (not new to building) I have just bought an un started kit from a guy that has gone into care. the kit was delivered I believe in 1997 (to the UK) and is almost complete. it has a new (then) 582 with all the yellow bungs still in, 2 props, still in boxes (one wood and one ground adjustable)
there is composite wing skins and composite L/E "D" boxes (inner ones are tanks) lots of blue and brown foam ribs etc. and I have all the engine, wing and fuse kits (bags of bits) and it all appears complete except for there are no main spars! Can these still be purchased as I assume they will be the composite variety?

Also I have borrowed some construction books from another Pulsar owner but they refer to wood wings so if anyone has some with composite wings I can borrow so I can copy and return it would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Dave Stephens

Dave, something to to in the meantime - - - replace all the blue foam ribs with fuel resistant foam before you start assembly. Someone else will know the name of the foam to use - - Klegcell I think.

Hi Brian, there are quite a few brown ribs, but as I don't have any drawings etc so I have not sussed out which ones I do have, but will replace them anyway as I assume the the material is reasonably easy to come by. (some have been nibbled by mice) My main concern is whether I can get a spar, as it will be a non starter without that.

Cheers

Dave

Hello Dave,

I asked a guy who is helping the widow of Mr. Degani, the former owner
of Pulsar Aircraft, to sell the assets, about spars. Here is his
response:

Hello Sonja,

Good question, I have not closed the loop on Pulsar just yet but may
be able to check and see if I can help find some wing spars.

If you can't get composite spars would it be possible to construct spruce spars as per the earlier Pulsars? I guess in this case the MTOW would be limited to that of the earlier Pulsars.
Perhaps someone knows and can advise if wooden spars would be compatible with the other bits you have for your wings?

If your kit has fuel tanks in the wings, do not use blue
foam ribs. They will desolve.

I have both blue foam and the brown foam ribs. although the wings are designed for fuel, I am still toying with the idea of a fuselage tank. all depends what spar I end up with.

The composite spar ribs are different than the wood spar ribs.

Dave, a fuselage tank with a 912 engine exceeds the design weight.

These guys or others out there would be able to manufacture and test a wing spar to your requirements:

HiThe wings that I have are completely built with BLUE ribs, The wings are completely built and 2 oz fiberglass
covered ready for paint.
I am looking for a 582 engine, top cowling, and engine mount.  I bulit this plane for a 912 (which I have in my shop,
brand new, never installed along with Ricks exhaust and other parts. Mark Brown sait last week that I had to put
a 582 engine as the airfrane would not stand up to the 912 engine. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a new 20 year old 582 engine available. I had it overhauled a couple of years ago to have it updated. At that time, it was given its initial runup to Rotax specifications. I also know where there is a 582 motor mount that could be used as a model to weld another one.

Also, I might be interested in a trade for the 912 depending on how much difference there would be in price!

Bob,
I have a full unused 582 engine mount, installation support blocks and the heavy aluminum cross beams to accomodate the engine mounts.
