Hi all

I have a tri-gear XS with a 914 turbo engine and constant speed prop, when we apply full turbo power on take off we get a metallic ticking/clanging noise through the Becker radio / 403 mc intercom, it rarely recedes when we throttle back which is extremely annoying . The avionics were wired professionally but the noise just won't go away completely. Has anyone any suggestions what could be causing this or have you had a similar problem that you resolved,
Suggestions would be welcome?

Regards

Turn the Squelch knob to the left on the 403 MC. It is picking up the ambient noise so needs to be less sensitive. I had similar sounds and this cured it. Just turn it until the unwanted noise stops, too much and you can't hear your passenger.

Also check the squelch button on the Becker radio. It is easy for it to be
pressed accidentally and the squelch to be switched off without you
realising it. A quick check is to switch the radio off and see if the noise
stops. Of course if it has been there since build it could be an
installation problem, most likely in the intercom wiring.
