This seems to be pretty standard fare for many foreign sellers who are unfamiliar with the US market and how our system works.  To date I know that these folks have been courting myself, Dennis Savarese, Jill and Carl Hayes, and a few others.  They wonder why none of us are eager to do business.  If you recall Fan from Eaglet Aircraft in China selling new CJ's, she was attempting to work both sides of the sales relationship selling to me then showing up at all the major airshows to sell to my customers.  More recently "Zack" was attempting to do the same thing.  They simply do not understand that they cannot sell to the main vendors here in the US and then sell to the vendors customers also.  With respect to these propeller sellers, we all have requested the tech performance data/graphs, etc. from them, and as far as I am aware none of the above have received anything.  Hopefully they will settle in on one vendor and supply him/her with good quality information.  Once the information is in hand, and a competitive price is agreed upon we can then see if the blades are in fact an improvement over the stock V530 blades.   I am not aware of what the actual DEALER price is but I have been told its something north of 6K for a set of their blades, this pricing indicates to me that they really have not done much research into the US market.  IMHO the high price, plus the fact that at this time we are without any solid information as to their actual performance makes them impossible for me to consider adding them to my existing stock of new V530 blades in my parts inventory.

When I told them I would only consider an exclusive dealer agreement for the US, they gave me a dealer price of $7000 a pair.  But you are once again right on the money.  They are trying to work both ends of the market.  You can be sure of one thing.  If someone does buy them in the US, I hope he/she is prepared to have to deal with the after-the-sale support, if needed.

Dennis,

I got an email from them too about the blades.  I wrote him back and told him I would be glad to arrange a test flight and evaluation of one of his props with the new blades in it if he sent it over here to us.  At this point, I think price is immaterial to the real data of does it work or not.  If he is willing to send a prop to you, me and someone here for evaluation for no charge...Great.  If it is the cat's ass so to speak, then there may be some reason to attempt to work out a sales outlet here.  If the blades turn out to have some performance advantage yet not significant enough to warrant the expense and agro, we will all know and so will GT propeller.

Kevin,
I did exactly the same thing and they simply avoided the issue.  They want someone to buy the blades for testing.  Sorry, not me.

The propeller issue is interesting, and in my view similar to the engine supply situation, which people had thought was infinite, but, in practice isn't.

The simple fact is that no new V-530 propellers have been made by Speriott for 7 years.

Inevitably supply will dry up, and of course of blades rather than hubs following ground-strikes.  We have, I think, eight V-530 hubs and no blades to put in them.

So there definitely is a market for replacement blades.

I spent some time trying to get MT Propeller to make them, but in the end they said that their machinery could not compress the root sufficiently to get into the ferule, so, quite simply, technically could not make them even if they wanted to.

We also have an additional problem in that, in most parts of Europe, you simply can't put Experimental blades into a hub, and then fly.  I suppose in the end people will tend to go over to MT.

For GT Propellers, if they are so good, they should be happy to do a back-to-back test against the V-530 and MTV-9.

To be specific about MT prices:

MT inevitably have to have two prices - one in euro and one in dollars, otherwise there would be nightmares of continuous adjustments.

Today's European price for either an MTV-9 250 or a 260, and either the K or B flange - Russian or Western - and with the new -29 blade is Euro 10,050.  In addition you have to have a spinner, because that is where the static balance weights are attached - and the small spinner is Euro 930 and the big Euro 1,650.

So the price with a small spinner is Euro 10,980 - today approximately US$13,850.

The US list price for the same prop and spinner is US$12,700 plus US$1,090 to make a total of US$13,790 - effectively the same price, and of course remember that the US price includes shipping to the US.

At one stage the US price was almost US$1,500 cheaper.  Some MT dealers will give a percentage of their commission to lower these prices.
