I seem to recollect a posting showing suggestions for a dolly which would hold a mono upright whilst de-rigging and then allow movement of the a/c.
I am considering moving the ship into the garage for the bad weather months this winter. This will only be possible off the trailer and minus the prop and the rudder.
Simple suggestions will be most welcome.

Mike, I have a great dolly which was manufactured by Roger
Targett, which holds my plane perfectly for rigging and
being height adjustable, it also allows the U/C to be
raised & lowered for work on Tyres, Brakes & wheel arch.
It depends on a strong fibreglass splash moulding of the
lower fuselage from the firewall back a couple of feet
with a cut out for the U/C, which is lined with soft
material for the fus to sit in, and it is through bolted
to the fuselage to nuts bonded into the hull. The whole
thing fixes into the covered trailer for transport. I will
send you pictures in the next 2/7. Roger did this as a one
off but it would be within the competence of many,
possibly most builders to make something similar.

Mike...my interpretation for sure...I separated the dolly wheels a bit more for added stability...those slotted framing extrusions are kinda spendy so I substituted 3 x 3 sq tubing where possible, but fully welded per Steve's design...I fitted and cleco'ed everything then gave it to my welder who charged me $30. for 15 minutes work max.

For Michel and anyone else interested, I attach a brief
description of my dolly which has proved very satisfactory
for plane handling, working on the undercarriage and for
transport in a covered trailer. It was made originally for
another mono, but when he converted to a trike I bought
the trailer and fitted captive nuts to my plane by simply
drilling through the existing bolt holes in the dolly and
then bonding in nuts and largish washers on the inside of
the fuselage together with a bit of appropriate local
strengthening. As far as I can see none of the
measurements are particularly critical although of course
the fibreglass bearing surfaces need to be nicely matched
to the fuselage. Having said that you do need to design it
so that you can get it underneath the plane in its normal
wings on position. Can send further views + measurements
if anyone is keen to pursue it.

That's very interesting and kind of you to share. Was it you who also mentioned they have an LAA approved 100 Ltr ferry tank and, if so, are you able to share the details of that Mod?

Richard, Yes. photo of the build sage attached.
Essentially I made an outline pattern by cutting a
longitudinal midline (of the seat well) partition and two
transverse partitions, analogous to the partitions you can
see in the tank. I sellotaped them together to insure that
I could get the resultant solid shape in and out. The
base is a 5 layer bid splash moulding of the seat pan
with the edges turned up vertically for a couple of
inches. The sides are of high quality foam with 3 layers
bid outside and 2 inside all the joints are made with flox
going about 1cm into each panel edge then covered with
tapes of same nos of bid in and out. There is a small sump
at the back of the system, and also a recess for the
starboard spar pin. All partitions are vented at their
tops and bottoms. It works with a syphoning system that I
bought from Europa - designed for their long range tank.
It is retained by the seat belts with extra multiple loop
straps around the top and front, calculated to resist 10g
in any direction.
Flow rates demonstrated to exceed max 914 consumption. I
had previously by the way left a bit of bid/foam/bid panel
in avgas & mogas for some weeks without being able to
detect any sort of degradation.

Issue 40 page 2 of Europa Flyer shows a photo of the mono support used at Flightcrafters. We have a similar support except the support arms point to the rear of the aircraft not the front. It is quite simple and easy to use.

I am interested, any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
What size screws are you using that screw into the fuse? You by chance have a pic of your reinforced and mounted nut?
Do you see any advantage to using castors that you can lock rigid, or unlock and let them castor?
Do you see any advantage using wheels that have brakes?

How do you fix your support to the u/c leg Jim?
Do you bolt it through or clamp it somehow?

For those you expressed an interest I attach some key
dimensions. The fixing wing bolts are currently many miles
away in the trailer but I think they are either 6mm or
8mm. Incidentally the track of the dolly wheels is
sufficiently wide that you can take one wing off without
needing to support the other one.

We just clamp it to the swing arm. We do have a couple of angles welded to the cross bar to locate the dolly on the swing arm. Sorry we don't have any photos of it installed.

I have been following this thread quite closely as i am building a mono and one day it will need to stand on its own. I have seen many different solution's to the problem but yours David or Roger's is the best iv seen as not only does it hold the fuselage upright it can be raised to replace pads ect AND it can be used to hold the fuselage in transit AND hold it while rigging!! I was that taken with it that last evening i started to make my own my taking splash mouldings of the fuselage, so as was said before thanks for sharing David. Thanks Frank
