The generator brushes on my Yak-52 are almost worn enough to replace. The M-14 manual says to not replace them without removing the generator. It looks like there's barely enough room to get in there without removing the generator. Anybody have experience with this?

Also, is there any particular break-in required after brush replacement?

Thanks,
Mike

I can tell you that pulling the generator out is a piece of cake. Do not unbolt it from the adapter plate (6 nuts) ... remove the generator and the adapter plate as one piece. (4 nuts) Will take you about 30 minutes or LESS. As far as break-in goes, as long as you can spin the generator shaft and the brushes remain in one piece.. you're good to go. "Break-In" (per se) happens in the first few seconds after engine start.

Mike,
After you replace the brushes could you please ship me one of the old
brushes so I can compare it to my stock of 285 hp HS6A generator brushes?
Maybe enclose it with your hoses when you send them to me. Sorry but I
cannot shed any light on the installation as I have never done one myself.

Many thanks.

Always Yakin,
Doug Sapp

Thanks Mark. With an engine hoist and 3 strong men I will get that megawatt thing off the engine, and send a brush sample to Doug.

Mike,

I've got generator brushes for the GSR-3000M (brush kits containing 8 new
brushes). If interested, drop me an email or give me a call.
