Dan,
I have two trailers.
Since we started towing with a small motorhome, I currently use the
shorter 9' wide trailer that is 24 feet long inside, no room for camper
features in this trailer. The plane is about 22 feet long folded leaving
about one and a half feet between wing tips and front of trailer. I
position the plane with about 6 inches from spinner to ramp door at the
back of the trailer. Since the tail is up on the tail wheel trailer I can
crouch down under the wing tips to get behind the plane and access the
stuff stored there. This trailer weighs in at 3900 lbs empty and has dual
3500 lb axles so with a gross weight of 7,000 lbs there is plenty of left
over weight carrying capacity.
Initially I bought an 8'6" wide trailer with a 27 foot long inside
dimension so I could have room for some camper features up front (before
the motorhome). In this case I was loading the plane nose first instead of
tail first. which means easy access around the nose of the plane to
bench/bunk, marine toilet, collapsible shower, AC unit, and generator.
Empty weight was just over 4,000 lbs with dual 3,500 lb axles.
In either case there is good room to take the engine cowl off and work on
it as well as work in the cabin area while the plane is loaded.
There you have it, a hanger, a shop with parts, tools, and spares storage,
serving as a toy hauler and even as a camper. Can't help but smile.
