I tried to post this yesterday but it was returned with a "fatal error" in delivering it to the list. Strange.
Anyway, here it is again:

I had a nice week-end flying my Kitfox and here are some photos:

Cheers,

Michel:
Thank you for sharing the pics. As always they
are breathtaking.
Thanks again

Thanks Michel. The first picture was very familiar as it was a similarly
painted Rans S-6 that was in our flying group - Idaho and other places. I
saw that scene many times. I can relate to your great weekend. This
weekend we are off to a Rans fly-in in Utah. We will be crossing mostly
desert, though.

Michel,
What kind of engine you got on your Fox?

You are probably puzzled by the cowling, Glenn. I had a 582 with the
beautiful round cowling but, one and half year ago, I replaced the
ageing 582 by a Jabiru 2200. I tried the Australian Skyfox cowling but
it fits only the newer Kitfoxes that have a rather flat top of the
cowling. Adapting it to my plane would mean: modify the firewall, the
glareshield, the panel and the windshield. So, I went for plan B: Cut
the existing cowling in two and form a new front, first in cardboard,
then moulded in fiberglass and epoxy. It doesn't look too good but it
works very well, my engine is incredibly cool, even on hot summer days.
I am very pleased with the Jabiru. I have now 128 hours behind it and
apart from changing the oil every 50 hours, it's maintenance free. It
may not have the torque needed to pull a sharp initial climb as a 912
but it goes easily to Vne, at level, long before WOT. It runs very
smooth and feels very reliable. One thing, though: At idle the prop
spins slightly faster than a Rotax and the plane floats a bit more
after flaring. But once you get used to it, it's not a problem.

Cheers,
Michel

Thanks Michel,
I have a 582 on my Fox Model II but not satisfied.
To be truthful I really don't like it.

Michel:

I enjoyed your pictures of your weekend flights. Your country
is very beautiful, and your planes are cool too. What altitude did you
use for most of these flights? You appear to be above the highest
mountains that show in some of the pictures, so I would guess that you
may be flying approximately at 10,000ft MSL.

Terrific pictures, Michel <http://home.online.no/~michel/Dokka/>! In
your "Happiness is..." photo, I'm amazed at how much the front of
your airplane looks like a face--complete with mouth, nose, and eyes
with pupils!

You've inspired me to work harder on my new 'fox. Smile

Mike

So was I the first time I installed the new cowling, Mike! Smile
