Hi,
It is time for an oil change again. However, the oil I always used is
no longer available.
The oil I used was Shell Advance VSX 4T. This was a Rotax approved
oil, suitable for leaded and unleaded fuel. There is a replacement for
this oil, the Shell Advance AX7, but I'm not sure whether this is just
a name change or a formula change.
So, what kind of oil are the rest of us using? Any recommendations?
Anyone who kan tell me whether the Advance AX7 is just a name change?
Frans

Guys,
Aeroshell Sport plus 4 is the Rotax approved oil we use in the States, which is a semi-synthetic for use with AV gas. I get it from Lockwood for less than $10 a quart. It is quite good at suspending the lead. However, can you get it over there?
For unleaded fuel I still prefer Mobile One MX4T or now called Racing T. My turbo responds well with it.
Regards,
Bud

It is a bit confusing. I have seen the AX7 advertised as being fully
synthetic, whereas the VSX was half synthetic. Full synthetic oils
have difficulties with the lead content of AVGAS and are therefore
unsuitable for my purpose. My supplier sent me Advance Ultra which is
supposed to be superior (and much more expensive) but in the Rotax
service bulletin it was indicated as unsuitable for use with AVGAS fuel.
So, this is why I'm concerned about the successor AX7 oil. If you can
confirm that it is indeed basically the same as the predecessor VSX
and still half synthetic I'm happy to use it.

That is unlikely. I even didn't know about this meeting but I have
quite a busy schedule this saison.
I will probably see you at one of the other events.
BTW the place you recommended to go to was Scilly was it?
Best regards,
Frans

Hi Frans
As you can see from the labels it a semi synthetic oil and it's previous name was vsx 4
Yes the Scillies Isle is a great place to visit, St Mary's is the main island with a interesting approach, you will need PPR and the airfield is shut on Sunday,
bob and me flew into helgoland last year on your recommendation and really had a good time
Will try for a revisit some time soon,
Regards
Ivor

Bud,
Could you kindly let me know what you mean by 'turbo responding well with it' please. ie, the Mobil oil as opposed to the Shell Sport Plus 4 that I am using.
Cheers
