Been watching and reading. Never flown a firefly but i have a bunch of the rest. Had an original firestar with a 447. Nice flyer but in the bumps it will wear you out. Flew a couple of the marks and was impressed. My love goes to the slingshot although I would not mind having a Kobra. My slingshot started with a 582 which really was plenty of power. Went to a 912/80hp and am so happy. Constant climb factor. Best thing about slingshot it lands almost exactly where you want without excessive glide. Bad fuel filter put me down in field with less than two hundred ft roll. No problem. Not for the squeemish or faint of heart to fly. Really sensitive but cuts through the bumps and lumps like a knife. Cruises at 75-95 if you wish. Enough back seat for smallish person or full camping gear plus ten gals of gas. Made a mistake in putting two five gal tanks in back instead of custom fifteen. No complaints or problems. Gotta get them custom made or buy used now. They are a handfull on the ground with torque and P factor but not to hard to overcome. I really love the three gals an hour at 85 mph!!! Dont need vortex generators cause you really DONT want to float this one in. When it drops its tail and ready to flair, you better be really close to ground. Just wanted to add to the mix. Need some advice on VG's. I need about 60 to put on one wing of an Xtra.
Is one brand much better than another? Anyone have specially good or bad experience
with the various suppliers?
Thanx, Russ K

John Gilpin a fellow Kolb lister sells VGs, I've heard good things about his.
Otherwise I have no experience with them.

Russ, I bought VG's from Free Bird Innovations on eBay.

Good service, can't say if they're any worse or better than others.

If I ever take the time to install VG's I like the Stolspeed ones. Adhesive backing, no drilling, cleaner nicer look and easier to wash/wax the wings without them catching your brush or towel to much. Here is an article about VG's you might enjoy... http://www.bcchapel.org/pages/0003/FSII%20Vortex%20Generators.html
