Quick question.

Should I expect any issues landing a Tri-Gear XS with speed kit wheel spats on the beach at Barra?

Specifically is there a risk of the spats settling into the sand on a soft beach?

An instant response from anyone who has done it would be welcomed. We set off for Oban and Glenforsa tomorrow.

Hi Geoff

As pete says it shouldn't be a problem at Barra.

Im based at Oban an currently building a Europa xs. The guys at oban are very helpful and will wash the the sand and salt water off if you plan to return to Oban after landing at Barra?

Im planning to be out at the airport working at my aircraft tomorrow most off the day, so if you are planning on being in Oban tomorrow and need anything then please let us know?

Kind regards
Donald

Safe travels, and +1 on the GoPro!

Pity there aren't many more vid clips on web from Europa's Wink
Cheers & blue skies,

[quote] Hi Goff,
I have been there with my Tri Gear with spats and no problems of the type you are referring to.  My big bit of advise is to ensure you wash your gear out as soon after you leave as possible to remove all traces of salt water.  It is very corrosive and things get welded on when you least want them to.
Have lots of fun and I hope your GoPro will be going along for the ride.
Pete

Hello Donald (fireflyer) and Pete J.,

Thanks for the tips. We plan to land at Oban Wednesday late afternoon or Thursday lunchtime, depending on the weather coming up.

Hi Goff

Sorry I'm doing the email replies from my mobile and the auto correct is changing your name Sad

I will maybe see you at Oban as I plan to be at the airport over the next few day anyway so will keep an eye out for you landing.

Kind regards
Donald

Goff, The quick answer is No. The sand is very firm. See
attached picture. I think the only (minor) issue that any
of us had was judging the height as we landed since the
sand was so smooth. Regards, David Joyce, G-XSDJ

Goff, that was 7 years ago & I didn't wash anything off
(although the Scottish weather may have helped!) and no
signs of anything corroding since. David
