Hello Kolbers,

I visited the Alaska Airmen’s Great Alaska Aircraft Gathering over the weekend at Anchorage International Airport. The rep from Desser Tire and Rubber had a soft smooth 8.5 X 6 LSA tire in display. The weight of the tire is 10 lbs. The Rep said they are going to produce a whole line of tundra tires. Sounds like they are going to give Bush Wheels Airstreak tires some competition…They are asking $175 for preorders of the 8.5 X 6. The rep said their prices will be lower than Bush Wheels.

There is a fellow in Arizona who has 26” Airstreaks on a Kolbra he is working on. He likes the tall tires and said the it allow he some nice soft landing in the rough country where he flys.

Desser has had another 21 tire on their website for a while that will also fit on a 6"rim. It comes in two versions, one that has mostly smooth tread (just a couple of ribs) that weighs 11 lbs and one that has the tread buffed off that weighs a couple pounds less. They are not certified. The link attached has the ribbed tire at the top and the buffed smooth tire lower down on the page. I have found tundra tires not constructed like BushWheels to be problematic to have low enough air pressure in them to take full advantage of the size. If they have tubes with low air pressure they shear the valve stems off. If they don't have tubes and low air pressure, they spin on the rims and leak when they spin. BushWheels have a tire stem in the sidewall and a tube built into the tire so if it spins on the wheel there is no leaking or damage to anything.

FWIW
