Jon,

Cheap Fuel (at) X35 Dunellon. Not sure how you are about flying over open water. Direct Route is about 80 Miles of open water From Naples Fl to Key West. If you prefer a over land mostly route. Stop (at) Homestead for fuel, then due south, you'll be over land most of the time, once you get over Key Largo, follow US 1 to Key West.

And remember to get Duval Faced on Shit Street Smile

Jon,

You’ll enjoy the flight (providing the weather is cooperating)…  If not pressed for time, I would recommend flying over the Keys starting just as you leave the mainland.

As you approach Key West from the N.E, you would need to look out for a high altitude tethered Balloon that you “really” want to avoid.  It’s sitting pretty at 14K feet…   It is marked on the Chart:  Restricted Area R-2916.

A lot to do at Key West, especially for first timers!  I usually take a cab from the airport straight to Duval Street which is the main ‘drag’ .  Fun to walk its entire length and plan to be on its west end for a spectacular sunset view.

Have fun!

Well if you get weather and need to bivouac ON, FD44 will provide free room, a suitable meal (for a rotor head), and a possible bit of alcoholic beverage. Otherwise just remember there are sharks in both the Atlantic and Gulf sides of Florida. Pappy

For some reason I didn't get Pappy's note about sharks. Can you forward?

I'm most likely gonna go out of my way to fly down feet dry and then over the keys to Key West. You'd think that with as much time as I have flying over water in the military that a few miles wouldn't bother me...

Maybe the erroneous engine gages and weird vibrations won't scare me too bad this trip.
