Guys
My engine mounts are loose and the bolts are bottomed out.
I noticed there was about 3/32" gap from the back of the engine mount to the front of the back rubber doughnut on both sides of the top engine mount.
I am getting word that the original rubber mounts are needing replacement some as early as 100 hrs or so. I have tightened mine up once but now the bolts are bottomed out. I am pondering whether to replace with the original or go with the higher Durometer Sonex.
You may want to check yours on your next "Conditional".
Has anyone on this list had to change out their engine mounts? Why?
Any info would be appreciated.

Bobby.
Just received a set of engine mounts from Sonex (about $65 with
shipping). I was willing to spend this much extra to try to avoid
changing them within a short amount of time. Purchased a partially
completed kit with the Jab 3300, ser # 3a 1437, so it hasn't flown yet.
Thank you for mentioning about the looseness you experienced. I will
change the mounts and probably hang the engine next week. Each of the
rubbers is identical, there is no thicker / thinner, top / bottom
difference. Haven't yet compared the hardness but the new ones seem to
be harder.
Sorry I don't have the information you need but I wanted to thank
you for reinforcing my decision to spend the extra $$$
Richard.

The bolts bottoming out is normal. They are supposed to. The rubber is clamped between the engine mount and the big aluminum washer. The washer slides inside the mount until it hits a ridge. This should be a solid connection, the washer isn't supposed to slide in and out. Check the detailed drawings in the installation manual.

Do you have the packing washer fitted? Large aluminium one? Makes a tighter clamp on the rubber.
