Hi All,

Have an issue with my engine!!

Its a new(old) Yak 52 I have, engine has just 140hrs since Termikas overhaul in 2008, its upgraded to 400hp and has mounted auto ignition. New coils, 50hrs since and mounted one year ago in Uk. Propp V530 has only 50 hrs also since overhaul.

Problem:

During run up it runs ok, it has slightly high mag drop if I test mag right after oil is heated on 70%, run it some minutes on 70 and mag drop is perfect.

After this run up and engine apears good. Goes out flying and it runs slightly rough on 70 during cruise, take it to 82 and it increase the rough running. Its not mutch but its not perfect. I do feel its the engine not the propp.

Also have an oil leak coming down right aft Of the sump. The oil apears to come from the split between engine block and compressor house.

The engine is strong but its has some issues with vibration.

Not sure if I have put everything right but if any has some suggestions I be glad:-)

Make sure you have no induction leaks coming from the intake tubes (gland nuts and collars) and the carburetor mounting.
You could also have a sticking valve. You might try adding 1 quart/liter of Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) to the oil and run the engine awhile to see if the problem improves.

Since it is new to you, what gives you the impression that the engine is not running smooth?
Why discounting a prop imbalance off the bat?
What other M14P powered planes have you flown?
Note, the M14P is not as smooth as flat-4 or flat-6 engine.
Anyone in the area that has significant time in a yak-52 that can fly with you?

Dennis,
Thanks for the reply, I have Re-torqued the tubes and carburettor. Also have checked the prime lime. Tomorrow I will take a leak check on all cylinders. Sticking valve has been one of my concerns.
Bear,
Thanks for the reply, yes this plane is new to me. Have flown it 15hrs since it was approved by CAA for a month ago. Don't have more then a couple of hundred hours in Yak 52, and most of the time is some years ago.
Propp balance is not off the list, will have it dynamic balanced, but need first to verify that the Blade angles are correct.
As said in first Mail, engine is running strong, No smoke, black or white. No cycling on rpm, pretty mutch seems very good.
One question, anybody have experience with bad engine mounts? Would it be neccesary to Re-torque the mounts some hours of flight After new installed?
