What can cause the gill shutter ring on a CJ to bind? Mine requires a lot of effort to actuate. Before I start taking things apart I was hoping there was an obvious answer. It's not the cable, I disconnected it at the actuating arm, and I had to use channel locks to open and close the ring.

Thanks Doug,
Each wobbler seems to be held in place with a small slotted screw which is safety wired to its neighbor. Can they be over tightened?

No, it would be pretty hard to over tighten them, no need to go more than snug as they are safety wired. Â Depending on how old they are they may be worn and binding also.

Doug & Katherine,
Please forget the panic and mournful call for help yesterday. It was the result of fatigue, memory loss and being rushed. Fatigue from just driving straight to Tulsa from Fla. and back in 3 days. Memory loss - part fatigue and not remembering where I put the engine mount bolts AND they are different sizes (short ones on top and long ones on bottom). And rushed - my brother could only spend a few days with me to help.
I am partly squared away at this point, (still trying to get my 2nd medical out of the way). Have no need now of engine mount bolts.

All that was needed was a little LPS-3 on the wobblers. Works like a champ now.
