I am looking for some advice on whether I can put an access panel in the bottom of the fuselage of my Tri Gear where the wheel is retracted on the monowheel. I was planning to put my fuel panel (pumps and non directional valves) in there, but access from above is too restricted for me to be able to get in to check or repair. It seems to me that the bottom of the fuselage in this area should not be a stressed panel. However before I cut a large hole in my fuselage, I want to get confirmation that I am not going to weaken it! I am thinking of a hole of about 12" by 9". Am I out of line? Grateful for any advice.

When I started building nev told me to cut out the entire monowheel hole and cover it up with a piece of aluminum which I did. Made life a lot easier.  I can't imagine trying to do all the plumbing without the access.

Jerry,
I converted my mono to a tri and made a removable panel to cover the mono hole and provide access to the tunnel. No reason you can’t do the same on a tri you build. Probably easier because you will have the actual piece you removed from which you can make a door/panel.
FWIW, I have also added a string of LED lights inside the tunnel for work illumination. I highly recommend you consider the same.

Well, not exactlY :^)
I did add a string of LEDs behind the new sight gage when I replaced the old, leaking, fuel tank:

While doing that I used the remainder of the LED string inside the tunnel for work illumination. No pictures of this, but I can take some next visit to the aircraft if anyone is interested. I’m also considering the addition of another LED string to the interior aft fuselage, behind the “D” door for additional interior work illumination. The LEDs provide plenty of light, can be dimmed and use very little power.
