I am looking for advice on fitting a Woodcomp 2 blade prop to my trigear.
I want to fit the 1700mm prop, which requires me to slightly increase the ground clearance. I am thinking of doing this by inserting a 1/4" shim under the fixing bolts for the nose gear horizontal pivot block where it attaches to the fuselage bulkhead. Has anyone done this (or any alternative method), and if so, do you have any advice?

Secondly, does anyone have one of Mark Burton's CSC-1 prop controllers spare that they are interested in selling? Unfortunately he does not make them any more, and I understand that the Woodcomp controllers have a poor reputation. Alternatively has anyone used the Airmaster controller with a Woodcomp prop to confirm whether they are compatible? Thanks.

Jerry Fisher

Hi Jerry,

Frans Feldmann in the Netherlands has fitted a big two blade Woodcomp and therefore modified his nose leg on PH-DIY to achieve some centimeters more ground-clearance.

If he doesn't answer here, you can try to get in contact with him by e-mail: frans(at)privatepilots.nl

Good luck!

Jerry,

I guess you are under EAA rules but be aware that any modification to the U/C would require significant amounts of work to comply with the UK (LAA rules). Typically this would involve analysis and testing. Both the leg and the mounting structure are affected.

I designed a new main landing gear for the CFM Shadow/Streak some years ago, this changed the aircraft static ground attitude enough to warrant a series of flight trials as well.

The EAA system means you avoid of lot of these issues, however, you do still need to check that you have adequate margins.
