Hi

I'm looking at replacing the 121.5 MHz ELT with a 406 MHz ELT. Is
there a recommended unit that replaces the old one with the least
amount of work and money.

I installed an ACK 406 in a customer’s plane. It’s a decent ELT. A five on a 1 to 10 scale. (5/10)

The worst part is:

1) Running the wires to the back of the plane
2) The remote switch needs a battery.
3) The one I installed required a separate buzzer (included)
4) The antenna is bent and so it won’t go through the dorsal like it should
(I bent the antenna so it would go through the dorsal. Why it isn’t straight is beyond me.)
5) The connector at the ELT needs to be ‘assembled’ since it is designed for a separate GPS
(This is a major pain-in-the-ass.)
