I haven't flown my mkIII since I landed on my return flight from Oregon the
end of Sep. Eventually, I will, if he weather will cooperate a little bit.
I am tired of Winter and ready for Spring so I can get outside and play.
I used to fly in any wind, weather, temperature, altitude, but that was
yesterday. I am getting a little older and it ain't as much fun flying in
adverse weather now. So....I pick my flying days to suit me. Could have
done the same thing on my last flight out West, Sep 2014, but there is
something about adrenalin that influences the decision making process. Most
of the time if you don't fly when it is windy, you don't get anywhere out
there.
Here is a little bit of history. 10 years ago John Williamson, Kolbra, Gary
Haley, MKIII, me, MKIII, and Ken Korenek, Titan Tornado, decided to do a
last cross country flight of 2005. Of course, the other three were from
Arlington and Houston, TX, and I had to fly from Titus, AL. On 5 Dec 2005,
we met at the airport, Beaumont, TX, flew the river to Port Arthur, TX, then
hooked a right at the Gulf of Mexico, flew south, low level, down the beach
the length of Texas to the Mexican Border, turned right up the Rio Grande,
another right and up the Pecos River, to Sonora, TX, another right to
Austin, Houston, and back to Titus, AL. The flight took me 5 days and 4
nights. Took the other three from Texas, 3 days and 2 nights. All in all
it was a great flight and a chance for four homebuilt airplane pilots to
spend time together. One night we slept on the floor of the FBO at Mustang
Beach, the next night in our tents at the airport in Del Rio, TX.
The photo is of the three Kolbs high tailing it down the beach somewhere on
the Texas coast.

I say post a huge picture of your build progress on anything Kolb! It's
better than nothing!

Thanks.
My apologies to those on the Kolb BBS. I don't normally use it. For some
reason I took a peek at my post on BBS and was surprised the attached photo
was too large.
Photo size on my email fits perfect. I have no idea how it comes out on
others, and really don't have any control over that.

Great Picture! Those are my stomping grounds pretty much and I may have
landed on that beach.  Hope the weather warms up, not just up there but
down here too!

Great pic John thats pretty nice formation for old homebuilders . Nice to read an email from you hope you can fly more soon . I am still working on the Firefly designing and building hand rudder controls . oh you might be of help I need some lightweight cable blocks that i could use to reroute the rudder cables from the foot pedal to the throttle arm so i will be able to operate the throttle and the rudder with one arm I have the arm built and have a motorcycle twist grip throttle on it and the rig works well i just need 5 --3/32 cable blocks to make it operate the rudder. I cant find what i am looking for in any aircraft supply but i thing i am coming close with a small stainless marine cable blockMarine Hardware - Pulley Block With Removable Pin - WebRiggingSupply.com What do you think of this

Have you considered using aircraft cable pulleys made up with 4130 or 6061? Not knowing how you are rigging your rudder control, I think that is the way I would go, rather than hardware store material. However, the phenolic pulleys are very expensive. I looked at some on Aircraft Spruce. Was a shock. I'd try and locate some aircraft salvage companies to see what they have available.

Ken Korenek took the picture of John W's Kolbra, Gary H's MKIII, and my MKIII.
We never got higher than that all the way down the Texas coast, up the Rio Grande and Pecos Rivers. Was a great flight.
