Jamar finger brakes

I have installed the Jamar dual brake cylinders and I have Grove brakes.  It appears that Jamar requires Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid and Grove requires MIL-5606 hydraulic fluid as does Matco.  I don't believe these two fluids are not compatible.  Does anyone have Jamar brakes cylinders with Grove or Matco brakes?  If so what brake fluid do you use and find compatible with this brake combination?

replacement master and slave cylinder "O" rings for whichever fluid 

system you decide on.

I have the original Jamar and Matco Brakes. I only use DOT 5.0 100%

silicone fluid. Works very well. Just don¹t get the fluid on the unpainted

plane - hard to remove!

Hi Bill,I hope alls we'll in your world and your first flight is getting closer. How are you progressing? I am not far from putting the top on, but am doing a major pool restoration at the moment which has become another distraction. I gather though of you haven't been building you may still have been flying. I still envy that back country flying in the canyons.Â

Christoph, that's good to know that the Matco seals and plungers can take the DOT 5.0 silicon based fluid given what each manufacturer says to use. How long has your brake system been in use?

In use since July 2013. I noticed that callipers stick a bit once the

plane has not moved for a few weeks. Sticking both at Matco Side or Hand

Brake. But moving the handle broke it free easily. This never happened

once the plane was in use (flying once a week)

Bill,

Go on my website www.customflightcreations.com and download the bleeding 

procedure in the Techniques section.

For your setup use only Dot 5 (not 5.1) and it works with everything as its 

silicone.

Read the bleeding procedure for the Jamar.  Then loctite in the Allen head 

pivot bolts because they do eventually loosen and you are blessed with one 

brake handle in your hand when least expecting it and needing to brake.

Bud,

I had to get a new set of plungers and seals as I ruined the last set in the Jamar cylinder by usingthe 5605 fluid Grove recommends.  So now I need to drain an clean the rEst of the lines to use the silicone DOT 5 fluid.  Do you have a recommendation for what to use to flush the MIL-5606 out.  I don't think I want to mix the DOT 5 with the 5606 residue.

OOH Bill.

Dot 5 is the best for our little aircraft.  Yet I have 5606 in my aircraft.

5606 only works in systems designed for mineral oil based fluid such as 

Matco and Grove systems.  Anything automotive is normally the standard Dot 

3-4-5 types.  Don't mix fluids, ever.

That said:  Flushing out the lines, calipers, park brake and reservoir is a 

chore.  In any flush, if you choose to flush with Dot 5, the silicone can 

get clumpy if you mix it with 5606.  Then you have a disaster.



According to ASA:  Naptha or Varsol are used to flush 5606.  5606 is mineral 

based based so Naptha will keep the seals in the calipers in shape.

In automotive systems where hydraulic fluid is added accidentally to a DOT 

fluid system, alcohol is recommended by automotive sites.  It normally will 

not hurt the caliper seals and it disolves oil based contamination.  Use 

about 20 psi air or more of dry air to blow out the lines and calipers. 

This is messy to say the least.  Wash everything afterwards, the plane, you 

and the interior.



Then go ahead and reassemble the lines and push copious amounts of DOT 5 

through the system calipers and lines into a clear bucket to verify the 

fluid is clean and clear.  Then get the brake system ready for bleeding 

again.  Bench bleed your master or just use my website techniques procedure 

to re-bleed.



That is about all I know.
