|

Thanks all for the help to-date I now have a new 'newb' question. Tried search but was unsuccessful.
On my -52 I have found that if I don't put about 30-40% throttle friction in the prop lever will walk back towards about 70% - it does this pretty quickly. In cruise no big deal but for formation it makes the throttle a little sticky which adds to workload and makes more precise inputs (well, as precise as the M-14P can be anyway) difficult.
I have been flying with the throttle lock approach for a while so I am not sure how far back the lever will try and go but it moves pretty briskly with no friction on.
Prop seems to govern properly under all conditions with only minor surging with big throttle excursions sometimes needed in formation.
Is this indicative of a prop setting issue (e.g., governor or counterweight, etc.) or just something in the throttle quadrant?
Suggestions to improve this so the prop will stay where put without having to engage the friction lock?
Thanks

Just bumping this in case it got missed in all the message traffic.
Curious if others have had the prop lever move too easily without friction on and if so, what did you do to keep a prop setting without friction on to aid in formation flying?
Thanks

My YAK needs the friction just bumped up to where it begins to apply to
keep the prop lever from walking back. I didn't have the problem until I
lubed the cable housing. Probably better than having to replace the cable
housing from lack of lubrication.

Shack! Fabricating a new cable is a pain to say nicely. Finding a roll press to swag the threaded rods onto 8 mm cable is entertaining also.

The 8 was supposed to be 7 mm. Hit the wrong button doing the one finger iPad key dance.

Roger and all,It never ceases to amaze me that many folks refuse to use the Yak list for it's intended purpose and insist on reinventing the wheel themselves.
It's been several years ago but I discovered that McFarlane will build up the swaged control cables. That said, they cannot thread the ends because they do not have metric dies, I did and did not find threading the ends a problem. The outer copper sheath is available at any good hdw store.

Bumping for another attempt in case question isn't clear enough.
Is there a way to increase friction on the prop lever only, either external to the quadrant (maybe some drag on the push-pull cable forward of the quadrant or at the governor), or in the throttle quadrant (adding washers or something)?
Flew today and it seems to take about 30-40% friction lever travel to keep the prop lever from walking back and this really makes throttle control for formation flying tough.
The governor and counterweight setup appear to be set correctly, ~100% on takeoff with prop lever full forward, but in flight at formation speeds/power settings (~200-220kph and 600-700mm MP) the prop lever walks back to 70-75% which really effects acceleration when needed.
Ideas/experience appreciated.
