Hi all, I have an overhauled HS6 from China in a crate. I received it maybe 9 months ago, and it won't need to go into the aircraft for another year or two.
I understand the factory does some pickling of their own when these engines are overhauled, but:
1) how good is the factory pickling? The book calls for pushing oil through the air compressor, carburettor, oil and fuel pumps, as well as No.257 anti-rust grease in the cylinders, and filling the case fully with No.257 grease.
Our last engine we put in is still going strong but it just had what looked like engine oil in it when we uncrated it, hence I'm a little sceptical with this newly overhauled engine we have sitting here.
Would the Phillips Anti-Rust 20W-50 do the job in preserving the bottom and top ends rather than whatever No.257 anti-rust grease is?
2) Can you borescope the bottom end at all? if I were to re-do the preservation job, what would be the best way to go about it?
Obviously it'd be nice to trust the factory had done the right job but then for the price of these motors these days seems no harm in checking...
