Flynn,
I had that problem once and finally narrowed it down to the carb operating cables. One would stick during throttle reduction causing an imbalance. I replaced the cables and problem solved. I tried to lube them first but that didn't work well.
Just another idea.

Hi Dick,
You're right and one thing we never seem to think about very often on the up front side of an issue. Cables on engines that are getting older or live in humid climates can get a little sticky. Just a little bit of friction from rust, corrosion or even just a slightly bent cable will cause carb unbalance.

Although it did not show up during the balancing, it is worthwhile looking at it again.
