I have added a 680 on the firewall as aux battery for the avionics. This allows powering the avionics separately from the starting battery until the engine is running. Then the alternator recharges the starting battery and trickle charges the avionics battery on the firewall. The firewall battery is insulated and is used to improve W&B characteristics (engine is certified IO540 with Hartzell propeller). I once also had a tail down when my RF passenger hopped off the aircraft on the right aft step with two passengers still in the rear. I considered a tail hook for the rear but instead decided on a 5 inch steel ring tie down.

Temperatures on the firewall are not very friendly to the battery. I measured them using thermocouple probes and don't remember the exact numbers but it was in the 170-180s just before takeoff. Much less in flight. After shutdown it gets really toasty in there for a few minutes. I would check on that battery occasionally to make sure it still holds its rated capacity.

Who are  you asking? I think Dave has two PC680s, which seem to be perhaps slightly more popular than the single PC925L. I don't recall anyone using the plans recommended  RG25XC.

Many people are using the RG25XC. It's a good battery and fits stock. Seldom do I have a problem with them.

Just wondering if the starting battery is a 680 also, that's what I'm considering doing and wondered about its starting capacity in this configuration or do you have option for joining the two batteries?

...Also from PC680 info website-

The PC680MJT (MJ=Metal Jacket), means the battery is housed in a metal jacket. This enables the battery withstand higher ambient temperatures. The PC680MJ is rated to withstand temperatures of 176 degrees Fahrenheit vs. the standard PC680 is rated at 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

I will be adding a Y off the rear baffle to direct air on the firewall battery and air shutter while reducing hot air to tunnel area. Although this won't help shutdown temps the metal jacket and other insulation should assist with that.

I agree with Lenny. I was planning on putting a battery on the FW, and after Lenny collected the temp data for me, I ended up mounting an EarthX battery in the stock location.
