I am looking for some advice. The primer handel in my CJ was twisted to the side and moved up and down as normal to prime the engine. However it will not twist back to the off position. Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated. Getting a look under the panel is quite difficult with all the wiring in the way. The Maintenance manuals I have don't shed much light on the subject.
Thanks,
Tom

sounds like a loose screw on top of the handle.

If the knurled nut is too loose, the plunger will not return to the center position. So first make sure the knurled nut is tight. If the knurled nut is tight and the plunger won't return to the center position, loosen the knurled nut and remove the plunger pump section. Look inside for anything that may be obstructing the plunger pump. On the end of the plunger there should be a small pin. If the pin is not there, it may have become lodged inside the pump thus preventing the plunger section from moving back to the "off"/center position. You would need to remove the entire assembly to disassemble it.

It there a screw that locks than handle down through the knurled nut? I've never look closely at mine but I adjust cap tightness with a screw (for what its worth)
