Hi All.

My PV50 CS motor failed in the climb out, just maintained 80 kts, high nose attitude but made it home.

After landing found power reaching the motor, 11.9 volts, so its the motor that's failed.



Q1. Where do I get a new PV 50 CS electric motor from.



Q2. Which bit is the motor, or how do you take the motor out,

Long shaft with motor on the end of it, this piece of shaft with motor  on it is secured with three small bolts to the prop, is this the complete unit to be replaced,



OR is it the little black motor on the end of the shaft only needs replacing.  ie unsolder the two wire, and with a pair of grips turn and unscrew the motor off the end of the Shaft.



The motor is Swiss Made, and possibly a supplier in Germany may have them,

So a Swiss or German Europa pilot may be able to help and post name.

I think you will have difficulty sourcing a new replacement from the  

factory as I understand that Arplast have ceased trading.

I do however have a spare "pre-owned" PV50 front end comprising good  

motor, screwgear and pitch limit switch block. It's a pretty straight  

forward job to swap it out but your work will need inspecting and  

approving before your aircraft can be returned to service.

If they really are no longer trading and no one else takes over then all us Arplast propeller users are on our own!

Hi Guys,

           Can anyone confirm the trading status of Arplast?

If they are not now trading then all of us that use the PV50 are without support.

We can service the hub easily enough as the bearings are standard and available.

The drive motor should be obtainable. If anyone has found a source I would like to obtain a spare or two?

The main problem could be blade replacement or refurbishment unless some new firm takes over from Arplast.

What thoughts do other PV50 users have?

Perhaps we can pool our knowledge and write up a decent user manual?

Hi Ken,

           I have details of the motor / gear head / bearing / brass thread. I'm in the process of getting the bearing and thread mount turned part made tomorrow. I have had mine for 14 years and it's proved to be a good piece of kit. I haven't looked into blades yet as I have a spare set.

Hi Kevin,

            I would appreciate the details of the PV50 motor.Do you know where to obtain a replacement?

I also have some spare blades but they are not matched to my hub, therefore ,if I needed to use them I would need to carry out some serious balancing.

If you succeed in manufacturing the drive screw and nut you may find that there are some potential customers out here!
