Hi All,
Are there any avionics expert who might be able to help ?
I have a Funkwerk ATR833 which has worked ( bar having a new face fitted
) extremely well over the last six years. but now works fine until I
start the engine, then a lot of interference, virtually unreadable both
transmitting and receivering. I did have the panel off to remove the
hard wiring for a gps which I dont need anymore. Sounds like a grounding
problem to me.
I would appreciate any advise.

It is nearly impossible to remotely diagnose this problem without wiring diagrams, photos of the install, etc. Generically, grounding is a possibility.
So, did you check all the resistance values of ground pins on the radio
and the case all the way back to the engine block or negative battery
terminal with a quality ohm meter? All should certainly be less than 0.5
ohms. Generically, there should be no ground loops, all grounds go to
a single point in the panel, then to the other side of the firewall.

Thanks for your input. I trailed RI back home from the
airfield so I can work on her in comfort  . hopefully I will be able
to sort the problem.
