Can anyone offer advice on this issue?
I have a Yak 55M with the Cleveland brake conversion.
For the past several flights my brakes were fine for taxi out and run up but after landing and taxi back to the hangar I had difficulty holding the right brake for scavenge run up. The rotor was not any warmer than the left one.
Yesterday the right brake failed completely after landing. Coincidentally the temperature was 15* below previous flights (50*).
The reservoir is full with normal pedal travel. My aircraft manual speaks about a gauze filter in the master cylinder to preclude loss of fluid during inverted flight. Could this be blocking normal pressure equilibrium after extended inverted flight and descent to sea level?
Im guessing here cause I don't really understand how the mechanism works.

Dan, You might check to see if any automotive-type brake was put in the system. This can ruin the seals. Only use the 5606 brake fluid. Mike Roehr

Hey there, did you get to the bottom of your brake issues?
I have a soft pedal on my 55m and have pulled the master cylinder.
Need some rubber parts, do you know of anything available ?

Steve;
Are you using a red colored fluid (Aeroshell Fluid 41 or equiv.)? If so
your seals are neoprene/nitrile NOT natural rubber.
Automotive (and very old aircraft to about late 1940's) used natural rubber
seals and vegetable based brake fluid. Probably today all brake seals
should be Nitrile/Neoprene since these are compatible with both vegetable
and mineral fluids.
However, if you are about to use an automotive seal in your red fluid brake
system soak it in that fluid for at least 48 hours and ensure there has been
no change in dimensions.

Thanks Walt. Yep I've had these issues with a plane in the past that used automotive master cylinder and aeromotive brakes. Had to swap out the rubbers.
Luckily most O Rings these days are Nitrile. I've soaked the parts over the weekend , and no swelling. So will reassemble with new ORings.
The rubber boots over the springs are perished, they will be a problem child to replace.
Quick question, there is a square section ORing that fits into a machined recess on the piston. It was really hard to remove, we had to pick it out bit by bit. Would appear to have been bonded in. There is a red stain on the alloy inside the recess. Is there a red locktite product that bonds Rubber to Alloy and can be used in brakefluid ?
