Hi all
I have noticed that the piston in the monowheel brake caliper overhangs
the edge of the brake disk. This may result in uneven wear on the pads.
Are there any other brake calipers (possibly using 2 smaller diameter
pistons) which can be used instead?

The Europa caliper is a clone of the Cleveland and as such is used
successfully on thousands of planes without problems. What you DO need
to look out for is re-lined pads. If the rivets stand proud of the back
of the pads, they will contact the piston and cant the pads causing
uneven ware.
If you want a really classy wheel and brake combination, take a look at
the Beringer products:

Page 9 for Europa Monowheel conversion.

It's lovely stuff, beautifully made and much lighter than the OEM.

The Beringer kit does indeed look lovely stuff.

They have a kit for a mono but has anyone used their parts on a Europa tri-gear or conventional taildragger? Any idea what the weight saving would be?

I would also be interested in the weight saving. Just replacing wheel tyre and disc and caliper on mains and nose wheel and tyre.

As a public service, I've just gone down to a very chilly workshop to
weigh these bits for you. I hope you appreciate the effort!

The Matco wheel (with bearings), disc and caliper weigh 2.917 Kg each
(5.834 Kg per pair).
The advertised weight of the Beringer equivalent is 1.977 Kg each (3.954
Kg per pair) for the lightweight 5.00 x 5 p/n RF-002
or 2.445 Kg (4.89 KG per pair) for the heavy duty 5.00 x 5 p/n RF-005

This would indicate a weight savings on the mains (I can't get to my
nosewheel to weigh it) of 1.88 Kg or 0.944 Kg depending on which option
you go for.
The Beringer also uses twin pistons as standard and is beautifully CNCd
and anodised as standard.

I can't see why these would not make a worthwhile replacement for a
standard tri-gear. I intend to use them on my "Conventional".
