Pulsar friends,
Weekend weather wasn't that great but I flew with my SDR module hooked up to my Samsung Tablet and tried it with an antenna that I built cut to 1/4 wave of 978MHz. Worked great! Pulled in data while at low altitude in the pattern.
The antenna is a simple dipole. Which is nice because it is one of the best omni-directional antennas by design. I plan on mounting it to some adhesive snap in wire clips, vertically under the passenger seat.
It is made of 2 antenna elements that are stainless steel welding rod cut for 2.868" long radial (bend into connector to tip) and the cable I bought off of ebay is a 100cm (3') long RG318 cable with the MCX male connector at one end ($3.29 including shipping). The other end of the cablehad some other connector that I didn't need because I just cut it off and striped and soldered the braid and center conductor to connect to the euro type terminal strip that holds it all together (and a tie wrap to keep the cable from twisting). Picture attached.
Best regards,
Ronko
