Quick question: Where do most installations employing the shower of sparks type of starting circuit mount the starting vibrator? Forward or aft of the firewall?

I don't recall ever seeing one installed forward of the firewall.
Mine is aft of the firewall with an access plate above it. Never needed to get to it yet though with 1230 hours.

The shower of sparks in my Pitts was mounted firewall forward and worked well for 25 years.
