Hi all. I have just moved on to fitting my cowlings and wanted to use the Europa club mod where the cowlings are secured together with the Southco quarter turn fasteners........however I contacted LASaero and gave them part number : 82-14-260-20 and was told that they are unable to supply them. Then I tried the Southco website, contacted their authorised dealer and was told that particular part number is a special order only and their minimum order is 5000! So my question is does anyone know where I can get these fasteners from OR doe's anyone have some (30 or so) that they didn't use and want to sell?

Many thanks Frank

Try Aircraftspruce, they have a large assortment of Southco fasteners, perhaps you can find it or a substitute that will work.

Frank,

Aircraft Spruce has Southco Fasteners but not 82-14-260-20 (Flush Head #82 Stainless Slotted). But they do have 82-28-260-16 (Flush Head #82 Zinc Plated Phillips) and 82-11-260-16 (Oval Head #82 Dacrotized Slotted). Either of these should work unless you just MUST HAVE Flush Head Stainless Slotted.

They also have the #82 retainers and #82 receptacles for the #82 studs.

I hope this helps.

Hi Frank,

Paul at 'Parts for Aircraft' was able to source some for me via A/c Spruce - though i asked for stainless but zinc-plated were supplied (and i had to take phillips-heads instead of those specified in the MOD). I did find another supplier in the US (D&D) but by the time postage was included it proved cheaper to use the PfA source. PfA charged me £72 for 40 incl P&P.

There is a supplier in the UK, but they also only supply upwards of 1000

Clive.

Hello Clive,

Thank you for your question. We do not have stock on the flathead SouthCo (82-14-260-20) and no future delivery. We do however, have stock in the 82-11-260-20 (oval head, same length) for $2.50 each if you can use these. Also the receptacles 82-35-295-20 at $1.85 each. Reasonable shipping cost to UK via US Postal Service around $30.00.

Thank you again and,
Best regards,
Susan

Hi Frank,

You seem to be sorted for alternatives to SS (I used the dacrotised).

One tip - I didn't use the retainers (small black washer-like things). If the screws are still in their holes when you remove the top cowling, you have to flex the sides apart slightly for the screws to clear the bottom cowl, with the associated risk of paint cracking.

I opted for removing & placing the screws in a small plastic Airwaves container (other brands are available, but its size & pop lid are ideal) or use your hat! Allows clean, vertical removal of the top cowl.

I keep a few spares of top & bottom cowling screws onboard in case the hat has a hole ... apart from the one you put your head in... Smile

Hello Frank,

You might give Skybolt.com a try. They have the requested part number in stock (flush slotted head) as well as the flush Philips head versions both in stainless steel. See link below:

Hi,

The following company supplies Southco fasteners in the UK:

Zygology Ltd
Direct Dial 01844 266025
Freephone 0808 1231221
Website www.zygology.com

I spoke to Helen Mc Corkindale (helen.mccorkindale(at)zygology.com).

They could get the 82-14-260-20's, but they don't hold them in stock, so you'd have to buy a box of 100 and about £76. They already have the zinc plated versions and can supply as many of as few as you require. He are the details:

82-14-260-16 1/4 Turn Stud Flush Slot 10 Each 0.46 Each

Regards
Carl
