Good evening Yakkers,

I am desperately in need of a piece for my Housai stainless steel exhaust. I managed to toast the piece on the Number 2 cylinder (top left if you're sitting in the cockpit). Checked with both Doug and M-14P to no success. Looks like I may have to get one shipped from China unless anyone out there has one they would be willing to sell.

Thanks!
Carter

Hi Carter;

I have many new, old stock, NON stainless exhaust sections.
Probably 3 or 4 of the one you need. No charge but you will have to tell
me how you managed to toast it!

I'd offer to weld it, but I promised my welding instructor in A&P school that I'd never weld on an airplane if he'd just pass me... Only broke that promise once and it cost me a who new muff for my C172...

Walt,Failure sequence of the std steel stock Chinese exhaust is normally first- top left, next bottom right, then bottom left.  If his pipes are all the same age and the top left is bad the bottom L & R are not far behind.  I do have the L & R bottoms in stainless steel, but no joy on the top left.

Doug;

He says it is a stainless exhaust. The upper left apparently failed at the weld joint to the cylinder flare.

First off, thank you all for the very quick responses. Looks like we have a solution in place.

Second, yes we put the stainless exhaust on about 8-9 years ago (we've had the airplane almost 10) after the original exhaust failed. As Walt describes, this piece failed at the joint where the pipe flares to meed the cylinder underneath the locking nut. It will be a few days before I can provide pictures, but in the end there was nothing left of the flared portion to weld back onto the pipe and duplicating the flare without a pattern would be an exercise in futility.
