Gents (and ladies)-
Can anyone tell me the size of the socket required for the CJ6's main wheel locking nut?
I've heard 50mm... ?
Thanks all-Â Â Â Justin/N280NC

Justin, I was the one who said 50mm, but I wasn't exactly certain... the size is about 50... I also sometimes use a large left-handed (metric) crescent wrench. JB

You really don't need a socket Justin. You can use a pair of channel lock pliers or as otherwise called, a metric adjustable channel lock pliers. Just remember though....the left main nut is a right hand thread and the right main nut is a LEFT hand thread.

Excellent info guys, thanks much-
These big nut jobs are typically tough (ie-LPS1 soak and breaker bar req'd), or generally easy to remove? Looking for any pitfalls before I stumble into them.
Thanks again all-

It should never be so tight that you have to use a breaker bar to loosen it.
To tighten, turn the nut until it stops. Do not gorilla tighten it. THEN back it off until the bolt hole lines up with the slot in the axel.

If tighter correctly, your fingers work fine.
