Hello everyone,
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm a relatively new Yak 52W owner. I've been going through the maintenance manuals trying to figure it out but I can't seem to find it. What is the purpose of the smaller line that comes off the bottom center of the oil tank to the engine. Is that another return line? I know the line that comes off the aircraft left side about half way up to the screen down at the bottom aircraft right on the firewall then goes to the pump but for the life of me I can't figure out what the line out of the bottom center does. Unfortunately I am not near the plane to look at it and try to figure it out and was hoping someone much smarter than I OM this list could enlighten me.
Thanks!
Greg

If you look closely, the line that appears to go to the bottom of the oil tank actually attaches to a fitting on the firewall. It's the line for the oil pressure.

Thanks gentlemen. I'll have to look more closely at it.

Not really George. I don't believe the TW has an oil dilution valve, does it? The small flexible line that comes from the oil pump and goes under the oil tank and looks like it attaches to the oil tank. But when you look closely, it passes the oil tank at fits to a male B-nut fitting on the firewall. On the other side of the firewall are the two oil pressure senders.

He does. The oil pressure line comes off the base of the oil pump and goes directly back to the sending unit on the center of the of the lower fire wall.

Sorry guys. I do not mean the oil dilution line which comes from the fuel pump and goes into the oil dilution valve which is, as Doc says, on the center of the lower fire wall. The small, flexible line that goes directly under the oil tank and LOOKS like it attaches to the oil tank, actually attaches to a firewall fitting right under the oil tank. The two oil pressure transducers are on the back side of the firewall where that small, flexible oil line attaches to the firewall. That is the oil pressure line that comes FROM the oil pump which is what I believe Doc was referring to. The fuel dilution valve passes fuel through it. Not oil. If one were to follow the output line from the oil dilution valve (look at the arrow on the oil dilution valve), yes it does go to the oil pump. But is on the other side of the oil pump. This is where fuel is pumped into the oil pump to dilute the oil. Many people have disabled the fuel dilution toggle switch in the cockpit or simply don't use this function.
