YES Jan, only Yak-52 in the Vintage Class Races !

As you can see on the photos below.

Some with stock Vedeneyev M-14P, 2 bladed Russian prop ...
Some with M-14PF and 3 bladed MT prop ...
Some with a combination of the above ...

In 2014 in Cascais, they had a Yak-50 ... it won by quite a margin Wink

It was quite an effort to get "janie" to Portugal ... from Belgium ...
trough France, Spain ...

But it was a lot of FUN !

Indeed, the racing in Portugal must have been fun.
This kind of event is virtually impossible elsewhere in EASA Europe
unfortunately.
My Yak 50 with 450 horsepower climbs much faster now but otherwise top
speed is only some 15 to 20 km/h more than before in the different power
settings.
Quite logical, if you look at the wings. Even if you would double the
horsepower you wonıt fly that much faster.
You said that the 52ıs had different configurations: two-bladed versus
three bladed prop and M14P versus M14PF?
Did you notice a big difference while racing? IMHO for racing the
difference M14P/M14PF should be marginal.
Weight of the plane at the contrary can make quite a difference.
The nicest thing about racing with equal planes is that the final
difference is made by the pilot.
Thatıs why I liked the T-6 racing so much when I visited the races in Reno.

The fastest ... as you can see below Jan :
were certainly the 400 HP M-14PF Yak-52s with 3 bladed MT prop ...
But the speed and the times are all very close ...

Hard starting/slow rotation - could be the air distributor is not properly adjusted/timed. Don't attempt it yourself unless you're very familiar with how to adjust it. Find someone who knows how to do it.

I thought there were five CJ-6s flying in Europe?

One (BZHB) is being re-engined with an M14P as I speak (so technically not flying, I suppose) at White Waltham. CJSA (mine) and BVVG are alive and well also at White Waltham with Harv's at Redhill and Bruno's in France (which also used to live at White Waltham).

Some of the guys flew four of them together last year (a first in Europe - I was banging around in an A320 somewhere annoyingly), hopefully something we'll be able to repeat.

If you need another Yak-52 to race, we have YAKH which works fine when we can get it started (slow turn over using a lot of air each time - no obvious leaks though - any ideas?). I give it 50/50 it could make it as far as Portugal (in fact, I give it 50/50 it could make it further than the Isle of Wight [Embarassed]) but I'm sure I could rustle up a couple of others.

Anyway, if I enter in one of the CJs, we could all save a lot of money by just mailing the trophy to White Waltham. [Laughing]

See you on the -400, Etienne.
