You either ignore the rules and hope for the best or you get a special flight authorization from the MOT.  It is a little gray if you are just transiting their airspace without a landing.

I have taken my CJ-6A into Canada several times. To be

legal you will need to get a special temp Canadian Air Worthiness

certificate. About 120 dollars Canadian and several weeks of e-mails

and forms? And they will try to limit the time that you can be in Canada

Guys,

I seldom post, but this one is right up my alley, being Canadian and all.

First, not to disagree with my good friend George, but you need a CofA Validation to fly in Canadian Airspace, no need to land.

The CofA validation is obtained from Transport Canada (TC) and is valid for a maximum of 90 days. It will list the area you may operate, the airports you may fly to and from and so on. There is a cost to this, $100 Ca. The Canadian Aviation Regulation does provide the inspector the possibility to issue the letter for one year, but only to airshow performers who can justify it. I have had letters for a year in the past.

You must email your request to caso-saco(at)tc.gc.ca where it will be dispatched to an inspector in the area you wish to fly who will take care of the paperwork.

I have obtained them in as little time as 2 days, but to achieve this you must send all the required paperwork with your request. Often, paperwork is missing and then a long string of email begins which only consume more time.

The required paperwork, which can be scanned and emailed, is as follow;

Signed letter requesting the CofA Validation - which must include the purpose of the flight and area of activity, port of entry and airport that you will use as a base of operation.

Limitation sheets
Last annual inspection
Last pitot static test
Proof of insurance (liability insurance is required by law to fly in Canadian Airspace)

TC will only look at your file once all the required paperwork is in and once the fees are paid. Then, the inspector will "ramp check" you from and distance and then issue the Validation letter.

If you decrease his workload, he may very well get it done for you in a day... human nature, we do the easiest tasks first...

Please do not think it is any easier for us Canadian to fly in the USA. Ten years ago, I would email the FAA and get a letter valid for the season. Now I need to write a full chapter to them and am given a letter that - technically is valid for the whole season - but specifies which dates I can fly at which airport. And I am not allowed the same privileges that the same airplane is in the US, for example, the FAA does not allow passenger in a Canadian CJ whilst flying in USA airspace.... cause you know these things are dangerous...
