Clive, I have been towing my plane for 15 yrs, initially with an open Europa trailer but for something longer than 10 yrs with a covered one. I did have a problem with the Europa trailer where the webbing supporting the wing broke, but I didn't discover that until I got to where I was going. Otherwise I have had 3 punctures and no other issues. (The punctures probably related to old semi perished tyres!). So my advice would be to carry a spare wheel and the wherewithal to change it ( and if you have a twin axle trailer, a 3" deep bit of wood with a tapered end will let you get the good wheel raised far enough to get the punctured one off the ground). Otherwise a trailer is so simple that mechanical problems are so unlikely that I would feel it is not worth spending anything to insure against them. If you should have a seized bearing or whatever, then simply shell out a part of what you have saved on insurance by getting help from a local garage. Basically insurance isn't worth it if you can afford the loss - for sure they are making a profit out of you!)

I have an open Mono trailer and I'm trying to put measures in place to ensure that if it broke down (rather than the towing car), it could be repaired/recovered

Several breakdown agencies specifically say they won't recover if it is the trailer that breaks down, not the towing vehicle

Does anyone have any steer on solutions please?
Or have experiences/advice to share based on their own experience?
