Has anyone ever had to replace a throttle cable on the Yak 55M? I have been having an erratic throttle lever to power setting issue (lever position not matching power output). Suspecting the throttle cable is the issue. Anyone ever encounter this?
Thank you
Jason

Jason,
You should check the cable clamps that grip the cable sleeve. If the cable sleeve moves just slightly in the clamps, the cable will not give you full travel. There are probably several clamps all the way from the throttle lever forward to and through the firewall. So be sure to check every one. Also make sure the cable is secure from the last cable clamp (usually at the firewall) and not flexing hardly at all down to the carburetor attach point.

When was the last time the cable was lubricated? With where that cable comes through the firewall oil along with all sorts of dirt and grass tracts in along the cable.

Richard Goode or others who have had more than one Yak 55m may be better to reply, but I have never heard of a throttle cable issue on a Yak 55m
Have you confirmed your pressure carburator is not showing signs of defect/trouble? if you have a solid connection between the throttle and the carb and no binding or roughness, it may be better to look at the carb. You may also want to check for intake leaks if it's inconsistently holding power at a constant throttle and prop rpm setting when taxiing or airborne. Finally, when trying to go to idle power, if you have carb ice, it will stay at higher rpm even with throttle at idle until the icing clears. (instead of 28% it can be as high as 42% and won't go lower)

I can't speak specifically for the 55, but over the years we've had quite a lot of issues with throttle control cables on Yaks which do tend to become sticky and therefore imprecise in operation. There is a particular issue with the 55 with (typically) no carburettor heat, and the first sign of carburettor icing is that the throttle jams, and in such circumstances, you can get rid of it by vigorous throttle movement, but if the ice has seriously developed there is nothing you can do to reduce the power setting!
