On three successive occasions of late, I have been unsuccessful in renewing my membership with the Europa Club. I keep getting the following error . . . . Access denied for user 'root'(at)'localhost' (using password: NO)
Is anyone able to shed any light on this for me please?

Kingsley - I’m sorry you have not been able to renew your membership. The message you are getting shows that the connexion between the website and the MySQL server is not working. The Committee are in process of moving the website to a new host with better facilities. One reason for the move is that some of the pages and facilities on the present website are not functioning. Tim Houlihan & I thought we had deleted or disabled all the broken links but obviously we have failed to find the one you used.
Would you please let me know exactly where the broken link is? It would be great if you could send a screenshot of where you click to get that error message. If you can’t easily capture a screenshot, then a description of the route from the club front page would help. It would be good if you could send the info direct to rowlandcarson(at)gmail.com rather than to the Matronics list, please.

I tried emailing you directly yesterday, but for some reason it bounced. It then struck me that you might not be the only person experiencing problems and the information may be of use to others, so I'm posting my response to the forum. Hope it helps.
........... and while I have everyone's attention, if anybody has some nicely framed high resolution pictures of Europas, Europa builds, Europa social gatherings Europa flyins (basically anything that represents Europa ownership) that we can use copyright free on the new site, I would be pleased to receive them (email address below).

Hi Kingsley,
I spotted your post on Matronics and thought I'd respond directly.
We are in the process of upgrading the website completely, creating new content and a new look and feel. As a result - the existing site is running in "maintenance only" mode - so some features are no longer working. Please bear with us!
If you have a PayPal account, you can pay us by simply logging on and use the "make a payment" facility using our email address of: membership(at)theeuropaclub.org
If you use your club membership number as a reference we can track your payment.
For the future, the new site should handle this seamlessly.
Contact me if this doesn't work.

Kingsley - my apologies for having missed this problem. The link is really obvious when looking at the website page, but unfortunately when editing the appearance using the WordPress software it is quite hard to find and was not at all obvious to either me or to Tim Houlihan that it needed fixing. We tried to use an automatic process to detect broken links but WordPress does not permit that. You can see that this is developing into an anti-commercial for WordPress!
Anyway, I have now managed to remove the offending stuff. It will re-appear in working form when we transfer to the new website hosting system. We all hope that will not be long now!

Matt - I’m very sorry that our poor maintenance of the website has prevented you from joining the Club.
Some time after the system was changed from the plain old PHP (in which I built a system to work with credit cards) to a WordPress template the Committee decided that we could no longer sustain the charges levied by the credit card issuing and processing companies. The links to the card system were removed then, but unaware to me they somehow managed to return, maybe as a result of crashes and rebuilding from backups by the hosting company.
I think I have now removed the offending links (well I think I’ve found all of them).
We hope soon to provide a website that works properly (on a new host), for the benefit of all, and will once more provide a way to join and renew online. In the meantime I have forwarded your message to the Europa Club Committee.
