At the next oil change, I would like to replace the drain plug with a quick
action type.

Could some kind soul tell me what size thread is on the oil tank drain plug
please? ie Diameter and pitch.

Thanks
Kingsley

Kingsley,

The IPC shows it as M12x12.

We replaced ours with a quick drain several years ago. They are available from Lockwood. We had problems with the gasket sealing with the plug and the quick drain has solved that problem.

Many thanks Jim.

Yes I noted the M12x12 quoted in the manual but I don't know what 12 x 12 means?? Seems to me that would be one hell of a thread pitch!

I'm wondering if it is a misprint and should be 12 x 1.2?

Looks like I might have to just drain the oil and measure it!

BTW Jim, I have always admired your many contributions to all things Europa . . . . keep up the good work mate!

Best regards

Kingsley

Kingsley,

You're right that doesn't make sense.

More searching shows it is a Saf Air M12175. Available from Aircraft Spruce at $43.95. So the thread is 12X1.75

Thank you very much once again Jim.

Armed with the info you have so kindly provided, I find I am able to
purchase a similar product here in Oz at a very reasonable price so have now
ordered it.

Much obliged

Kingsley

Hello to all, this post made me think I need to fit one of these as well.
A quick search on the Internet yielded this result from Quick Valve in the UK.
Model F107N has a nipple to allow a tube to be fitted and it costs 23.97 GBP plus postage. Mine is on it's way.

The product at this link is exactly the same product as what I have ordered over/down here. Only difference is the part number being EZ-107. The hose nipple is extra.

Cheers

Hello Jim and others who might be interested.
Just to confirm, the drain works well. I drilled a 1.5 mm hole in the casing where the circlip washer goes to allow wire locking in position.
Cheers

Hi,
I feel it necessary to mention that in the UK under LAA rules a mod approval
will probably be required before fitting this item. I think the device may
indeed be a good idea but you cannot just fit it without approval.

Pete Jeffers (LAA Inspector for The Europa Club)

PS Rules applicable outside the UK probably differ
