Hi all
We've found some corrosion on the spar caps of my Yak-52, which is going to have to be repaired before further flight.
Is there an official repair manual for the Yak-52, or do most facilities use generic data such as AC 43.13?
Thanks
Mike

Hello Mike,
I'm sure, given Russian thoroughness, that there is a detailed repair manual. But equally it would have been made in about 10 copies only and given to only the big repair factories. They regard these things as state secrets, and definitely would not release them, even although they are all pretty much defunct.
So I think you need to go back to basics and use generic repair technology – but it is a fairly conventional aeroplane.
I'm sorry I can't be more helpful!

Mike,
I'm curious where the airplane has been stored and used? The only place
Ipersonally have ever seen serious corrosion on a 52 is on aircraft
stored in an open hangar and very near salt water. Also operated over
salt water at "low" altitudes.

Hi all
Dennis, the aircraft has generally not been close to the sea. I had it for many years in South Africa, on the Highveld, which is aboout 450 miles from the nearest sea and 5 500 ft asl. For the past two years it has been in storage in a hangar in Australia, about 30 miles from the coast.
It may have been exposure to a salty environment during the shipping from South Africa to Australia, or simply older damage that we;ve never picked up

Hi
Thanks Richard, I figured that might be the case.
Is there a generally accepted Western equivalent for the alloy materials? Classic 2024?
Regards
Mike
