It appears that the Chinese weren't always careful when soldering the solder pot style connectors. In some cases they would wind up with creep up the wire making the wire stiff and prone to breaking from vibration.
Many techs today have never seen a solder connector, only crimp connectors and wind up with creep when making repairs. If you can find old connectors take them apart and practice using the old pins.
