Gentlemen,
I found that I needed to replace the two wheel bearings in the front landing gear wheel of my Allegro 2000. The ball bearings were running rough. The rim is a split rim so I removed the six bolts and the tire itself. I am working with the half of the rim containing the two bearings. I tried to press out the bearings but they would not budge. That may have been a mistake. Now I am not sure how to removed the bearings. Attached is my cross section sketch of what I think is the bearing housing. There may be a bearing seat behind each bearing that fixes the position of each bearing. If so, you can’t visually see it. I also don’t know why there is a loose sleeve for the axel between the two bearings? Has anyone ever had to remove or replace the front wheel bearings on an Allegro 2000? If so, how is it done? Also, is the wheel itself cast aluminum or steel?

It appears we might have different wheels, so I can't help much. Mine are Matco with 1630-2RS bearings. You split the wheel and push the bearings from the inside out. Being that you have snap rings retaining the bearings, I would suspect that is the exit path for the bearing. It should come out with no issue using a small arbor press.

I replaced the main gear wheel bearing last year. Both the mains and the nose wheel are the same and the bearings are the same. There was no need to dismount the tire or split the rim. I simply removed the snap rings and using a small brass drift, drove the bearing out from the opposite side.

To install the replacement bearing, place the wheel on a flat surface, position the bearing and drive it in until seated with a socket that is slightly smaller that the bearing bore. Once fully seated reinstall the snap ring. And your good to go.

Bearings are out! No problem once I knew what to do.

Interesting. You've got sealed bearings on the main axles? On the mains, I've got tapered bearings which you preload and grease the same as automotive applications. On the front are standard 1630 sealed bearings. Any idea what diameter axles are on your Allegro? Mine has 3/4" for the front, but I believe the mains are larger. I would guess 1" shafts, but I would have to measure to confirm.

N456TS,
All of the wheel bearings on my Allegro 2000 are the same. They are sealed
radial ball bearings having the following dimensions:

Bearing O.D. = 42 mm
Bearing I.D. = 20 mm = shaft O.D.
Bearing width = 12 mm

The bearings can be found on line at www.thebigbearingstore.com
they are specified as 6004-ZZ
