Checked my 6 year old, rubber conventional filler tube (old style long one from the centre of the fuselage. Looked good as new to me and very flexible, no signs of cracking around the face or inside. Surely first signs would be black bits in the fuel filter.
Was there any progress on the metal filler, did anyone get a batch made? Was it with Nev?

A picture of two section of original pipe from my aircraft, looked fine on the outside but definitely breaking up on the inside,
the amount of rubber actually exposed to the fuel was very small on my installation,

Hi Europa owners,
It has become evident my aluminium elbow maybe in demand again.
I can ask the manufacturer of the aluminium elbow to make another run. This would require at least ten Europa owners to commit to buying. As I am now flying to Heathrow again I can bring them with me and post them in Londontown to save cost. American builders also, as I am in Los Angeles/San Francisco frequently.
Those builders interested in buying an elbow please email me. If there are enough I will get a price for you before committing.
I have had no problem with this fuel flow connection.
Merry Christmas.
Cheers,
Tim

Guys,

Before you all rush to fit aluminium elbows to LAA aircraft please note that
there is not currently an approved mod to do so. This is being worked on by
Andy Draper but until we see what it says, particularly with regard to what
spec joining hose is acceptable, we don't know what to buy. As I fitted one
of Tim's elbows 10 years ago I am hoping this will now get approved quickly
by a standard mod to regularise the situation.

Regards

Brian

As you say Bob, lots of activity behind the scenes.

MOD79 may also bring something to the party for some Europa-owners (LAA aware). The black silicone hoses in that MOD kit have a green fluoro fuel-resistant lining.

Liking the new look/feel and regular updates of the website btw . . .

Hi Jon,

The standard lengths are 76mm so I have ordered two . You need about 30mm overlap on to each joint surface and there are effectively 4 joint surfaces.

Update- a formal LAA Mod application for the XS aluminium elbow has now been submitted and is "in the system".

I will let you know when it has been approved.

Thanks for the update Brian. Just out of interest does the mod call for any special clamps for the silicone hose or are the standard factory jubilee clips suitable? I’ve no experience with silicone hose but I’m led to believe it is softer and have heard you can get clips with rounded edges to suit it better.

Hi Jon,
In order to keep things simple the mod uses the same clamps as the standard installation. Constant pressure spring clamps might be an even better solution if you can get hold of the correct size.

FYIW I installed the alloy elbow at build stage and used a commercial fuel tanker delivery hose to connect each end the supplier was willing
To sell me half a metre, the spec sheet claimed it to be completely impervious to all fuel types including methanol which I believe is the most
Troublesome of fuel types

Hi Tim,
As and when you get a batch of these metal elbows for Europa XS made up, could you please include one for J Baranski (G-CCJX). John is a Europa Club member in the UK, but has not as yet registered for the Matronics Forum so I am sending this request on his behalf.
Pete Jeffers (Europa Club LAA Inspector)
PS he is currently AOG as he damaged his original whilst trying to inspect it.
