# 6 cylinder

I seem to have an excessive oil leak on number six cylinder. This happens after I’ve shut down overnight.  Then plugs are oil soaked and have to be cleared before next flight. Only on number six just removed it and everything seems fine.  No scores or ring breaks. Is there a particular position order for the rings?  The engine has less than 50 hours. No bent piston rod or anything like that. Thanks

That sounds pretty much normal for an M14. Can be from any of the three bottom most cylinders. #6 is the worst since it is the most dependent. Do you have intake drains installed. Those that have series 2 engines install a window in the port on the nose case to show when the exhaust valve on 6 is open. Craig Pain has that kit I think. 

For those of us without, we pull blades religiously. If the aircraft is going to be sitting for a while I pull blades once a week 15 at a minimum to clear all the cylinders at least once.  If I’m planning on not flying for awhile,  I pull blades after the engine cools until oil starts draining from the intake port or the left stack. I then stop pulling there. I will also drop the chin cowl and drain the sump into a clean empty fuel can I use for oil. Some will put that back in the oil tank. I don’t. I just a couple of fresh quarts to the tank to make up for the loss to get the dip stick up to 10 or 11 liters depending on length of flight.

Knock on wood, have not had a problem yet using that technique.
