Hey guys
I'm researching for a future CJ-6 purchase, I've looked at a few models some with the M14 conversion and some with the stock Housai. I'm not particular on either just want a good condition aircraft, however what is the support like in North America for a Housai equipped CJ? I can find lots of info on the M14 but haven't found a shop that sells engines or does overhauls.
Are Zero or low time Housai engines available? What do they cost? Who does overhauls on the Housai engines? What are the typical costs associated? I'm new to aircraft ownership so there is plenty to learn.
Thanks!

There are two well known and trusted companies here the USA, who can easily overhaul the M-14p. One of them has done major work on HS6 engines. Both have talked about taking on the HS6 but that takes time and market. There are NOT a lot of parts for that engine, and the Chinese are not using that engine for the new production CJ6. So its going to become kinda rare. Doug Sapp can give you a good idea on availability. I personly don't know of anyone else who can do major repairs or overhauls on them. You might pick up a mid-time used one from someone installing a M-14p on their CJ.

So what are they using? K-model rather than the A-model?
If so, I'd be keen to get my hands on a K if anyone knows a source....

Could you please tell me more about this "new" engine which is being used in the new production run of CJ6s? I have been keeping close tabs on this and I don't have your information. Could you please let me know your source?
Best,
Doug

Actually, CJ-6 production has resumed - we were at the factory last week (a historic event) and saw new ones being assembled.... In a later Q&A session, the factory told us they are using the 285HP HS-6 on the new planes - so the engines are being produced - if/when/how we get parts is another matter.

Thanks Matt;
That is great news!
I am not surprised that they would elect to stay with the HS6A engine
perhaps with any upgrades they may have identified in previous service.
It would appear to be a better choice than the M14P or a similar high RPM
Chinese variant in conforming to the primary purpose of the aircraft.

There is a group of RPA folks touring China right now and have visited the factory in Nanchang. I'm hoping we can get some definitive info from them when they get back. A month or so ago there was a video about the new production from the national Chianese TV. What I remember seeing was 4 CJ6 in different stages of production on an assembly line. And was told that the translation said they were going to use a larger engine in it.
I know for sure the Senegal airforce wants to upgrade their entire CJ6 training fleet to M14p engines. They even made a trip over here to inspect one of ours that had been modified.
Admiditly I have not personally seen anything written down in black & white from any official sources. Mine came from someone who was translating the video.
