I am looking for LED lights for the CJ. I would like to find some before I paint it. I am wanting wingtips, tail and landing lights. However, I was wondering if people put beacons on them also? I see some CJ’s with a light on top of the rudder cap. I didn’t know what it might be except a beacon.
When looking for a light do I get 14 or 24 Volts?
Here is an example of something I found. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sam,Here is what I have done regarding LEDs for the CJ.
Wingtip strobes / Nav nightsAveo Engineering AVE-WPSTG/R-65T
http://www.aveoengineering.com/lsa-experimental-ul-kits-and-gliders/ultra-daylite/
Same size as the original Chinese, but the hole pattern is a little different. I had to make a mounting plate.
Vertical stabilizer red anti collision light
Aveo Engineering Red Baron Daylight
http://www.aveoengineering.com/lsa-experimental-ul-kits-and-gliders/anti-collision-aircraft-light-redbaron/
Both the wingtip and vertical stabilizer lights are low current draw, indestructible and very bright. The best for this purpose I have seen so far. The Aveo engineering people are very knowledgeable and easy to work with.
24-volt single LED bayonet base bulbs & 24-volts LED cluster bulbs
Superbight LEDs makes/imports these. They are normally for recreational vehicle use.
The single LED bulbs come in multiple colors and are drop-in replacements.
White = BA9SF-W-28V Red = BA9SF-R-28V Green = BA9SF-G-28V
There are used for the cockpit gear indicators, low fuel lights, generator/alternator light, etc.
The cluster bulbs are drop-in replacements for the external landing gear lights. Attached is an image.
Here is a link to their website. The navigation is not intuitive, but eventually you can find what you need.

Cockpit map lights
To replace those dim, fluorescent Chinese cockpit map lights, I installed a flexible 28-volts OPLIGHT. A dimmer controls the brightness and also switches from white to red light. One of these generates plenty of light to view the entire instrument panel for night flying.
www.OPLIGHT.com These can be found on Amazon.com and sometimes on e-bay.com
Installed all of these lights years ago and have not had a failure.
Hope this helps,

Warren,
Thanks for the excellent response to my question about LED lights. I was wondering which light do you use for the landing light in the wing? Did you put something down for that or were they just the interior lights and the exterior lights position and beacon lights?
Also, is the beacon required on my 1969 for VFR Night or IFR? I figure it is but just checking.
Thanks again,
SAM
