I am 6 foot (and shrinking) but I find the hi-top to be a really good idea - besides the extra room (I also did the extra width kit), it feels much roomier. My Europa is the same interior width as the Mooney I fly, but feels much more roomy. My wife also prefers flying in the Europa because of the room. It is also faster than the regular Europa - Bud Yerly, who has built numerous 912S powered Europa's says the same thing - mine is the fastest 912S he has flown. Flat out at a 1000 feet I get 137 knots. I have heard similar reports from other high tops. Doesn't make sense as cross section is larger, but aeronautics is a black art. When I am in a regular Europa I feel like I am flying a 1957 Porsche Speedster with the top up. The room may be there, but I am always bending my neck to see out the windshield. The extra 2.5 inches or so is really worth while.

On the cracked frames - didn't we glue in reinforcement tubes inside the frame during the build? I remember doing so but not sure if it was the top or bottom arms. I don't have a manual handy - has anyone else noticed that the weight of all the notebooks and auxiliary material almost equals the dry weight of the Europa?

I sent a request for quote by e-mail on Saturday 8, got a response from Karen on
Monday 10, placed my order, then got another e-mail saying the goods were shipped
on Tuesday 11. That is an excellent service from Europa Aircraft.
Parts received this morning: 11 days for travelling from the UK to France, that's
long but not Europa's fault.
The products (red silicone hoses for the XS radiator) looks great, excellent quality.

I often get comments about being 6’5’’ and fitting into a Europa, but with the high top it’s fine and tour in it a lot round the Iberia peninsula, probably the tallest Europa pilot in the fleet!

For those that are still in the building cycle, or even those wishing to retrofit, would it be worth doing the same fix to the bottom tubes?

Mike,
Wait a little longer to hear the outcome of the survey and what EUROPA Company stipulate. Probably ‘definitely’ will be the answer.

I agree. I am flying but have done the top tubes during my build. I plugged the bottom tubes with silicone sealant to prevent airflow from the engine compartment but could clean it out of the call came to do this. On a side note, when is the best time, weather wise to visit NZ? We have a Scandinavian trip scheduled this summer but are looking past that.

Mike,Good weather in New Zealand has shifted with Global Climatic changes. Now better to visit late summer in the February/March period where it is more stable.
Do come and visit us in Christchurch, on ‘main’ scenic, rugged and beautiful South Island of NZ.
All the best for the festive season.

I Order the same hose in the beginning of the year, good quality and best time
to receive the packet. 5 days.

im 6'4" and have the low top.   I have more than enough room.   I built fiberglass bucket seats covered in 1" of impact foam and sheepskin in the belief that the shape of the seat is as important as the padding.  Fortunately my theory proved to be correct....

I often get comments about being 6’5’’ and fitting into a Europa, but with the high top it’s fine and tour in it a lot round the Iberia peninsula, probably the tallest Europa pilot in the fleet!
